Notes from New York

David devised, directed, musical directed and arranged this ground-breaking series of shows in London's West End.

About the show
Notes from New York started life in 2003 with the purpose to present the work of contemporary musical theatre composers in the West End.

Staged in an intimate setting, the shows featured a number of UK and European premières of songs by composers such as Jonathan Larson, William Finn, Jason Robert Brown, Adam Guettel and Michael John LaChuisa.The shows were staged at the Arts Theatre and the prestigious Donmar Warehouse with the first anniversary gala at the Trafalagar Studios, November 2004.

Following five one night presentations of material from across the pond, David directed Not(es) from New York , featuring the music of British composers Charles Miller and Grant Olding, at the Duchess Theatre. March 2006.

This was followed with the unique seasonal show entitled Christmas in New York which received its world première at the Apollo Theatre on Sunday 10 December 2006 and returned to the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue on Sunday 9 December 2007, the latter marking David’s debut as composer with his own version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The most recent show, Notes in Heels, profiled the work of Georgia Stitt, Jenny Gieiring and Zina Goldrich, three female composers from New York, at the Duchess Theatre in March 2008.

The next show will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the series with a unique gala staging of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years starring the series’ associate artists, Julie Atherton and Paul Spicer.
