Gerard McCarthy was awarded Sir Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Scholarship to train as an actor.

On screen he can currently be seen alongside Sir Derek Jacobi, Neve Campbell & Joely Richardson as Ashley Stokes in TITANIC: BLOOD & STEEL, an epic 12 part series charting the extraordinary construction of RMS Titanic in the shipyards of Edwardian Belfast, directed by Ciaran Donnelly. The series was nominated for 5 IFTA Awards including Best Series & Best Director.

He recently played Brondsted in the first episode of Michael Hirst's brand new History Channel series VIKINGS (starring Gabriel Byrne) and will soon be seen as Kevin McSwain in the new BBC drama THE FALL, a five part series starring Emmy & Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson. The gripping thriller written by Allan Cubitt shows how a homocide team works when it comes up against every policeman's worst nightmare. It is expected to air in April 2013.

On stage, McCarthy made his Shakespearean debut as Fenton in THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR at The Globe in London. The production received widespread critical acclaim and subsequently transferred to New York & Los Angeles with McCarthy reprising his role in both cities.

Most recently, for the Ambassador Theatre Group, he played opposite Robert Bathurst as Dr Bruce Flaherty in Joe Penhall's multi-award winning play BLUE/ORANGE.
