Julie played the lead role of Kate Monster and Lucy
The Slut in the West End premiere of Broadway hit Avenue Q.
Sesame Street meets South Park: They may look familiar, but these puppets (and their human counterparts) have an irreverent take on the joys and travails of making it on your own. Winner of the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical. Life may suck on Avenue Q but being jobless, homeless, politically incorrect, having sex are just some of the topics featured in the terrific songs of this show.
Julie was joined in the cast by Jon Robyns as 'Princeton' and 'Rod', Simon Lipkin as 'Nicky' and 'Trekkie Monster', Clare Foster as 'Mrs T', Ann Harada as 'Christmas Eve', Sion Lloyd as 'Brian' and Giles Terera as 'Gary' and it is directed by Jason Moore.
The show commenced previews at the Noel Coward Theatre on 1st June 2006 and more information can be found at the shows official website: www.avenueqthemusical.co.uk
Reviews
"The puppeteers are outstanding, especially Julie Atherton, and Simon Lipkin This is the best thing with puppets since Shockheaded Peter. I predict a Kate Monster hit." The Sunday Times
"Within an extraordinarily talented ensemble Julie Atherton and Jon Robyns are quite brilliant in creating these puppet personalities. The former shows great versatility in the roles of both girl next door Kate Monster and her rival in love Lucy the Slut." The Stage
"The actors deftly combine the roles of puppet manipulators and performers. Julie Atherton catches all of Kate Monster's outsiderish yearnings." The Guardian
