Julie has headlined and co-created all of the shows in the series. She will next play Cathy in the gala staging of The Last Five Years.
Notes from New York started life in 2003. The purpose is to present the work of contemporary musical theatre composers in the West End. Initially focusing on the work of US composers, they have also explored burgeoning British writers.
Following five one night presentations of material from across the pond, they presented Not(es) from New York, featuring the music of British composers Charles Miller and Grant Olding, at the Duchess Theatre in March 2006.
They then created a unique seasonal show entitled Christmas in New York which received its world première at the Apollo Theatre on Sunday 10 December 2006 and returned to the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue on Sunday 9 December 2007.
The most recent show, Notes in Heels, profiled the work of Georgia Stitt, Jenny Gieiring and Zina Goldrich, three female composers from New York, at the Duchess Theatre in March 2008.
The series will now celebrate its fifth anniversary with a unique gala staging of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years starring Julie alongside her co-creator Paul Spicer.
