WORKSHOPS
Here are just a sample of the types of workshops we can provide. If you feel that any of these would be suitable for your venue or could be adapted for other projects we would be really keen to discuss our work with you.
1 - LORD OF THE RINGS WORKSHOPS
We are delighted to offer our Lord of the Rings workshops, providing schools with CRB checked highly skilled and experienced teaching staff that are also part of the Acting Company of Lord of the Rings in London’s West End. See www.lotr.com.
Content: We will be able to cover Key Stage 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, Drama and English requirements within our workshops. We are also able to adapt to any specific requirements that an individual school or college may have.
Workshops take the form of:
- Drama warm up exercises – team building, focus, concentration.
- Discussion about rehearsal process, language, translating book to stage. Q and A about working as an actor.
- Demonstration of make up/ wigs for actors, using materials/ costumes, shoes etc
- Physical group dance/ movement workshop – look at and explore contrasting character movement.
- Explore language using voice exercises. Teaching songs from the production.
- Demonstrate any special skills i.e) stilt practice, crutches etc.
- Teach and learn a short section of the show, leading to a performance at end of workshop
Costing:
- Fee for 1 or 2 hour workshop (30 kids or under) - £100.
30 or more students, fee is £200. 2 workshop staff required - Fee for half day session. (30 kids or under) – £175.
30 or more students, fee is £300. 2 workshop staff required - Fee for full day (30 kids or under) - £300.
30 or more students, fee is £500. 2 workshop staff required.
The above fees would include travel costs. School staff are encouraged to attend the workshop, however attendance is not compulsory.
If we would need to travel overnight to the venue, a £50 hotel fee would have to be added to the package, and also we would have to include return travel costs. Our tutors are required to be in London’s West End by 5.30pm each weekday evening.
2 - WEST END SHOW WORKSHOPS/ AUDITION TECHNIQUES.
Attending open auditions. Audition procedure/ etiquette. Choosing songs and speeches. What to wear. Communicating with audition panel. Entering the room. Acting through song. Text analysis. Dance auditions. Recalls. Dealing with nerves. Body language.
These can take the form of a workshop in which the individual is requested to prepare a song or a speech, leading to analysis of presentation and content using constructive comments and advice.
Revealing the ways in which a Director and Musical Director works with the actor in rehearsal/ audition scenario. (Pianist can be supplied.) This can then lead to a group exercise in which a dance routine from a West End musical is taught culminating in a presentation to an invited audience. We also include time for a discussion forum, providing end of session feedback.
3 - APPLYING AND AUDITIONING FOR DRAMA SCHOOL.
Which college to apply to? What to expect at an audition? Which speech/ song to choose? How to present yourself? Funding and scholarships/ grants bursaries? Coping with nerves.
4 - WORKING AS A PROFESSIONAL ACTOR
Agents. Finding your own work. Dealing with unemployment. Tax and the actor. Pensions. Equity. Spotlight. Publicity photographs. TV film and commercial castings. Training centers, resources for actors. Contracts.This takes more of a question and answer forum.
